Steadily Over coming trauma

Steadily Over coming trauma

He was malnourished and went through some serious trauma.  He was withdrawn and when we tried to hug and talk to him, like his brother, he would turn his head away to avoid eye contact and hide under the table.  He had jiggers, live worms imbedded and reproducing in his body, from bacterial infection throughout his feet and fingers.  He could not even walk or touch anything without experiencing excruciating pain.

He is now trying to socialize but this is a slow process. I home school the children that are not yet ready for school so he is in , “mommy school”, now as he becomes adjusted and socialized and feels confident and ready for school.

12 pounds at two years!

12 pounds at 3 years

She was abandoned by her mother to her father.  We were called to save a severely malnourished 2 year old girl.  We worked with her and she became healthy and fat.  We then returned her to her father and the step-mother with strict instructions of how to maintain her health.  A year later when we came to visit, she was in worse condition than she was the previous year.  The father and step-mother locked her in the house, under a table in the dark.  When we had to resave her she was a mere 12 pounds at 3 years old and blind in both eyes could not walk or even hold a cup.  Thankfully through much prayer and surgeries, she can now see, and walk.  She has severe speech delay and is mentally delayed because of all the malnourishment and trauma.  But she is loved and cherished here.

Unloved and abandoned

Unloved and abandoned

Abandoned by his mother to his grandmother along with two of his half siblings.  He was locked in her home in the village.  The grand mother is too poor, she cannot even buy soap or any food.  She digs in another’s  garden to earn some small fee.  The children were eating only once a day in the evening some dry maize flour.  When we found him he had severe malaria, bacterial infection and was a mere 12 pounds at the age of 2 years.  He could not stand or walk and his spine was bent like an elderly man because he was left just lying in the house. When he first came here he would hide under the table and if you tried to hug him or speak to him he would roll his eyes up into his eyelids or close his eyes tight so he could not see you. He is now healthy and walking thanks to love, proper nutrition and our amazing therapists. We are still working on his socialization skills but that usually takes a year or two for them to come around.

A lovely day out with family

A lovely day out with the family

We are strictly not an institution but a family. We strive to give the children a family atmosphere always. Once in a while we go on family outings, go shopping and some times grab an ice cream and pizza.

Little, Sickly and Unwanted

Little, Sickly and Unwanted

This is our newest angel. In the featured picture, she is one year and 1 month old. She was obviously unwanted perhaps because she was born with cerebral palsy. Her mother had locked her in the house and did not move her around! She left her in a terrible situation wading in her own urine and stool!

Rejected, her mother gave her to away to her paternal grandmother who too rejected her and put her away in the bushes to die. However before she could leave her in the bush, a neighbor stopped her and told her she could give her away to the police. It’s the police that contacted us and that’s how we got to care for this little angel.

By the time we got her, the skin was peeling off because of severe bacterial infection. She too ailed from pneumonia, and tuberculosis and her limbs were stiff and twisted.

She is still on medication and getting physical and occupational therapies.

She still has a long way to go but she is becoming stronger and healthier everyday! Our God is an awesome God!

This little Angel is now 7 years old, It’s a miracle!  Her mother succumbed to AIDS and by the time of her death, she had never revealed to the family who the father was! At the time when we rescued her, She was 2 years and weighing only 5 kilograms! Or 10 pounds. The brown hairs on her head were a mark of severe malnutrition it was only a matter of time, we knew she too would soon die unless we intervene. She was found locked in a pig house,   She was eating pig poo, had tuberculosis and bacterial infection, giant live worms were in her body. She is now a shy, fat and happy and healthy beautiful girl.
